God Knows The Weapons
Scripture Reference:
Isaiah 59:17
“No weapon formed against thee shall prosper…”
You cannot attend church longer than a calendar year without hearing the phrase, “No weapon formed against us shall prosper.”
It is often declared loudly from the pulpit as a pastor encourages us that the depths of hell we are experiencing in life will not overtake us.
It is whispered softly from a mother in the church consoling her daughter after a traumatic experience:
“Baby… no weapon formed against you shall prosper.”
It is spoken firmly from a mother to her son when he feels defeated and less than because of how others make him feel at school:
“Son, no weapon formed against you shall prosper.”
And sometimes, it is repeated innocently by a little child who once heard her grandmother say it while trying to comfort a friend who scraped his knee on the playground:
“Micah… no weapon or something like that my grandma says… shall prosper.”
It is a phrase many of us know by heart.
But if we are honest, sometimes it feels like the weapon is prospering.
Sometimes it feels like the weapon is weaponing… because life is lifing.
And in those moments, it can feel difficult to believe this scripture when the diagnosis came back positive, the marriage ended, the job was lost, the grief became unbearable, or the anxiety refuses to quiet down.
It can feel like the weapon formed against us actually worked.
But when we look deeper into the scripture, we discover something powerful. The Bible tells us that the blacksmith who creates the weapon was also created by God.
That means nothing reaches us outside of God’s awareness.
No weapon can be formed that God does not already know about.
Now, this does not mean we never place ourselves in harmful situations or make choices that create unnecessary pain. Sometimes, through our own hurt, fear, pride, or disobedience, we participate in creating wounds we later have to heal from.
But even then, God remains faithful.
Whether the weapon was formed through the actions of others or through our own foolishness, God is still able to rescue us.
Today, you may feel depressed, overwhelmed, or exhausted because a weapon seems to have won the battle.
You may be grieving a loss that changed your life forever.
You may be anxious after hearing layoffs are coming over the next few months, and it feels like the weapon is prospering.
You may be signing final divorce papers while carrying a level of sadness and loneliness you have never experienced before.
And honestly… it may feel like the weapon won.
But rest in this, sis:
God knows the weapon.
Matter of fact, He knew about it before it ever reached you.
And the same God who knew the battle was coming has already made a way through it.
Not only will He bring you out, but He will also meet you in it.
He will meet you in the lonely place.
The anxious place.
The grieving place.
The depressed place.
Because no weapon can ever prosper against a woman who God has already declared victorious.
The battle may have wounded you, but it will not destroy you.
God still has the final say.
Prayer:
Father God,
When life is lifing, and the weapons have formed and appear to be winning, I will trust in you.
Thank you that I am never alone in the battle, and it is a fixed fight.
No weapon.
No panic attack.
No unkind gesture.
No persecution.
and not even a bad hair day - lol! (I am so grateful that I can laugh with you!)
Can separate me from your love or defeat the plan you have for me.
Today, I believe you.
You ALWAYS have the final say!
In Jesus name,
Amen.
